About Mataranka Homestead Tourist Resort:
A variety of accommodation from air conditioned MOTEL UNITS, CABINS, and BACKPACKER facilities. CARAVAN and CAMPING facilities are also available, powered and unpowered. Mataranka Homestead was established in 1916 by Dr Gilruth, the administrator of the Northern Territory, as an experimental sheep and cattle station. The real pleasures began when the homestead opened its doors to become the first self contained resort in the territory, with guests returning alongside our migration birds to one of Australia's most beautiful and tranquil waterways. The unique spring fed Thermal pool within a lush tropical rain forest of luxuriant palms, maintains 34 degree and flows at 16495 litres per minute. Mataranka Homesteads neighbour, Elsey National Park, borders the majestic Roper river with its crystal clear waters and cascading falls.
