  I feel bad giving an average score and will caveat this is based on a personal experience but do think the staff should do more to prepare people for the experience. The staff were lovely and accommodating when we had some issues with the tickets we had booked, so I really cannot fault them. The reason for the lower rating is due to the experience we had and I would urge the team do more to prepare people and provide them with information. I took my parents who are elderly and a little bit fragile. It was a smaller and older boat (I think an old fishing boat?) and we had a very short introduction - the deckhand did mention sea sickness but only to throw up over the back of the boat. Once we got out, the water was SO ROUGH and we immediately started to feel ill. Bear in mind, this is a 3 hour trip. My parents were extremely ill for the majority and had a pretty horrific experience. My mum was sick multiple times and I thought at one point she might faint. Multiple other people on the boat were ill too. I understand they can’t turn back or make it better but just wish they might have prepared us more or given us better warning as I honestly wouldn’t have taken my parents. We did see whales though which was amazing and as I say, couldn’t fault the staff just be prepared

  Went out on the tour day after my birthday! The captain & crew where all very friendly! Saw sea lions & seals and 3 different kind of dolphins & 2 humpback whales. I will go back next year. I like the smaller boat feel. First time going whale watching and wasn't disappointed

  We went out on the Star of Monterey yesterday (10.19.21) for my mom's birthday. The Captain and Deckhand were great! We saw humpback whale, two kinds of dolphins, otters and sealions. It was a great trip and I would definitely use Chris' Fishing and Whale Watching again! The Captain navigated at the perfect speed, knew where to go and gave some great information along the way.

  Went whale watching on October 4th. Weather was beautiful. We saw 2 humpback whales and were able to watch them for quite a while. Also saw 2 kinds of dolphins, seals, and otters. Captain was very knowledgeable and explained what we we seeing. Crew (Kenneth) was very helpful too, and answered lots of questions. Boat is 70 feet long and there were 10 passengers, so it was not crowded, which I appreciated. I would take this trip again!

  Absolutely wonderful! Such a thrill to see these beautiful, majestic creatures in their native environment! The staff was very helpful and friendly. They found whales straight away, Then they found more and more, the whole trip was entertaining and fascinating. And the naturalist that narrated the trip was excellent, very knowledgeable, very interesting. (The PA system could use an upgrade but I'm not going to take a star away for it.) No snack bar, so be sure to bring your own if you'll want any. I thoroughly enjoyed the excursion -- in fact, I liked it so much I bought an annual pass! It's a 3 hour drive each way for me, but well worth it!

  So many whales, dolphins, birds etc. It was very lively..... Amazing. And the city of Monterey is beautiful.

  My wife and I booked the 10:00 am excursion on Thursday, September 23rd. That morning, my she was feeling sick and decided it was probably a good idea that she stay behind. Chris refunded my credit card $42 of the $55 I paid for her ticket which I thought was more than fair. The whale watching itself was awesome. We saw a group of three or four humpback whales and a large group of sea lions feed on a large mass of bait fish. This went on for maybe 30 minutes. I really enjoyed the narrative on the speakers and they posted video on Facebook afterwards.

  You could not have asked for nicer people. And the captain tried to keep the whales where they were easier to see in the shade. He did such a good job, a whale swam under the boat. They are now my go to whale watching co.

  AMAZING experience!! We loved the trip from start to finish. The crew was super knowledgeable and we saw several whales jumping from the water! 100% book it!
