You'll cross the Bonnet Carre Spillway, a flood outlet for the river, and see a panoramic view of Lake Pontchartrain on your way to the plantation. See the Big House, which is one of the finest surviving examples of Spanish Creole architecture in Louisiana, and learn about the daily life of former slaves at Whitney as recorded by the Federal Writers' Project. This was a thought provoking trip. Makes one wonder how the human race can continue to be so flawed and hateful. Will we ever learn from our mistakes?

This tour provides a very unique narrative relative to the revision of African descended persons' his(her)tories of Louisiana. A superb tour and conduit for race relations and healing in the USA!

Booked a tour to see the whitney plantation and air boat tour for Octobr 20th. On october 19th the actual person taking me for the tour Cresent City Tours called to let me know that Whitney plantation was still closed from the hurricane and they had to cancel. So I pulled up my reservation with Viator/trip advisor and cancelled as he advised. They will NOT REFUND me the money as it was not before 24 hour even though it was not my fault and the plantation was closed. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THROUGH THEM. RIP OFF

The Whitney Plantation was phenomenal. The whole plantation is a memorial to the enslaved people who lived and worked there. It felt like an honorable way to preserve their stories and shed light on the ugly past. I removed a star specifically because of Grayline who transported us to and from the plantation. The description of the tour said we would receive 3 hours at the plantation, but we only received 2 hours—which wasn’t long enough. Also, the description stated that masks would be required in public areas. We were on a packed bus and the federal mask mandate was not enforced. Our driver/tour guide wasn’t wearing a mask either. Additionally, the info said all passengers’ temperatures would be checked. This didn’t happen. As someone who is immunocompromised, I felt extremely uncomfortable being put in this situation.

Jim our tour guide and Brian (AphiA member) the driver were both AWESOME! Thoroughly enjoyed the rich history of Louisiana and the smooth ride. Loved that Whitney story was told from the slaves perspective and that many of rhe original buildings are still on the property. Loved the self guided tour from the app. Much needed history lesson to be told. Excellent experience!

Had a great tour to Whitney. Brian was a safe driver and Jim provided a running commentary on the whole trip explaining local history and the sites along the way which was much appreciated. Whitney history is something everyone should see/hear.

Due to Covid and damage from Hurricane Ida we had to do the self-guided audio tour. I'm disappointed to have missed the the docents' tours as much is learned from them and the group's questions. The Whitney's focus on the life of the slaves is critically important, unique and an eye-opener to this time in our not-so-long-ago past. I am left with appalling pictures of the shacks, the garden of plaques with names of 2,200 children who died there, the rows of gigantic cauldrons for boiling sugarcane,,, and the Faces.

Enjoyed hearing the history and seeing some of the house, but wished we could have seen more rooms—like the kitchen. For me, too much bus time for the plantation time, but it was an interesting, informative excursion.

The ride to the plantation was excellent. The driver was super! He gave us so much information about NOLA. The plantation itself was very hard for me personally. It was like i could feel my ancestors. I learned a great deal walking thru the grounds. My spirit was heavy when i left and i was literally choking back tears the whole time i was there. I would recommend this tour absolutely. Especially to people of my race. Also to people of other races so that they may see and feel what my people made it through. WE ARE A STRONG PEOPLE! Great tour. Will visit the others next tome im in NOLA.
