What an absolutely amazing experience. James is so knowledgeable and takes the most beautiful photos. He chose a spot that was less windy and very quiet. I think some of the other tours go to more heavily trafficked areas with more commotion and light pollution. Highly recommend!

James had to cancel yet I am giving him a five star rating. Why? When the clouds rolled in James was transparent and gave us the opportunity to cancel. A less ethical host would have brought me to the top of the mountain for a less than perfect experience. I was disappointed in the clouds but impressed with James and his efforts to ensure he was delivering a good experience rather than being most concerned about revenue.

This was an amazing and unforgettable experience! The weather cooperated and the skies were very clear. The amount of stars we could see with just our eyes was astonishing. We were provided with warm coats and blankets so it was comfortable too. James is a fantastic tour guide. He was very thorough and detailed, explained everything we were seeing about the constellations, planets, and terrain around us. He took several 30 second exposure pictures of key features. His camera set up is really high quality and the pictures were unbelievably good. The entire tour was such a cool experience. Absolutely worth it to see the night sky from such a unique vantage point on the entire planet. I would love to come back in the summer to see the Milky Way at its brightest.

James, our guide was A++. On time, friendly and knowledgeable. Brought an amazing star tracker camera and shared views like I’ve only seen in a magazine. Very fun “family photos” with the night sky in background. Had parkas for us and blankets to sit on. Highly recommend!!! 💫 🌌

What an amazing experience! James was a wonderful guide, full of knowledge and humor! There were many "aha" moments for us during the tour, like how quickly it transitioned from cloudy/foggy to crystal clear while driving up the volcano or just how quiet and calm it is in night sky + volcano . We will never forget stepping outside of our car for the first time to see the beautiful sky lit up with SO MANY STARS. We felt so small and all our problems seemed to have vanished during the 2 hours we were on Mauna Kea (except for the fact it was very chilly - bring extra layers to wear underneath the provided parka!). Thank you James for the experience to see our world in a whole new way!

James was an excellent guide and the experience was magical! James was organized, communicative, and knowledgeable as he is an Analog Astronaut with NASA. He brought us to a location that was optimal for stargazing without the noise and dust of cars passing. He timed our viewing so that the stars would be brightest in the sky and made sure we were all warm in parkas with blankets to sit comfortably while viewing. His specialized camera captured real time details in the sky that couldn’t be seen otherwise and the detail blew us all away capturing colors and depth in the sky. The personal photos with the night sky in the background are also such a treasure to take away from this experience, in our photos you can see the Milky Way clearly. Highly recommend selecting this tour for Mauna Kea stargazing. Truly an incredible and once in a lifetime experience!

Best stars we have ever seen in our lives. James was great, easy to communicate with, and made the experience comfortable with parkas and blankets. His passion for the stars really shines through. Would highly recommend this if you want to see the Milky Way, nebulas, etc. Note that there are no telescopes provided but he does bring his camera and takes photos of the stars you’re looking at, which shows features of the stars with awesome details!
